Russel Brewing Co. Kettle Sour Review Russell Brewing Co. – Russell The Kettle Sour Review

The Russell Brewing Company has named their seasonal sour release Russell. Russell The Kettle Sour is described as a skinny jean wearing hipster type that had to put aside his usual tendencies to brew a beer that the brewery is now particularly proud of. From the bomber bottle this beer pours as a clear, golden colour and has one finger of head which settles at a moderate pace leaving no signs of lacing behind on the glass. The aroma is malty and lightly sweet with a puckering sourness tied to it. The nose is surprisingly balanced though between the tones. The flavour too is quite balanced. The sour tones are up front and easy to pick out of the lineup but don’t overpower. This is still a beer. Malt character comes through up front and leads into a citrus-sourness. The sour notes fade shortly there after giving the light malt flavour behind with a similar finish to a light blonde ale. Russell’s take on the Kettle Sour may come across as mild and subdued to some but overall it is one of the more balanced kettle sours out there without going crazy with other flavours to match the sour intensity.

I quite liked this beer but I totally agree it is quite subdued. It is a great intro beer to sours.
