The second coming is here in the form of Townsite Brewing’s second release of the Lil’ Red. This Sour Red Ale comes in 650ml bottles and pours as a reddish amber beer with a thin finger of quickly settling head. The aroma has hints of cherry and a distinct sourness but remains that of a beer. The sour is rather subtle and allows a light caramel sweetness to come through on the nose. The flavour is quite unique and reminiscent of a light sour Belgian Tripel. Candi sugar and Belgian yeast give a big bodied Tripel like flavour while the sour tones add a lighness and crispness to the flavour. As a big flavour but easy-on-the-sour Sour Ale this has aspects that will be enjoyed by fans of big Belgian beers and sour ales.
