The Phillips Brewing Company has upped their game with a true northwest flavour experience with the release of their Sky High Grand Fir Ale. Infused with the tips of local Grand Fir tree needles this beer pours from the bomber bottle as a fairly light straw colour with two fingers of dense head. The aroma is light with citrus tones and a sappy tree note. The smell from the Grand Fir is like a blend of spruce tips and juniper aromatics. Tasting the beer a light body leads into a big tree experience. The sap tones add to citrus notes and a touch of the juniper tones to make a bright and sessionable, yet still strongly flavoured ale. The Grand Fir Tones are right up front but somehow still not overbearing.
