Powell Street Brewing Dark Sour Powell Street Craft Brewery – Dark Sour Ale With Cherries Review

Powell Street Craft Brewery has come up with a Kettle Sour Series of beers and in that line of limited release brews comes the Dark Sour with Cherries Ale. This kettle soured beer was brewed with real cherries and pours from the bomber bottle as a cherry-hued, cloudy brown colour and is topped with nearly a fist’s worth of head that is rather slow to settle for a kettle sour. On the nose a sharp sour cherry tone twists the nostrils while a rich and dark-fruit tone gives a sweetness and balance at the same time. When the beer first hits your lips it gives a sourness that is rather sharp before it builds into a bigger bodied beer that highlights the sour of cherries along with a deep sweetness of dried fruit tones. At the very end the beer surprisingly has a fairly distinct barley flavour that leaves the palate relatively neutral. Overall the sour side takes charge here but the sweet tones and barley flavour add a light balance to a delicious and rather puckering brew.
