Red Collar Brewing - Black Dog Quad Red Collar Brewing Co. – Black Dog Belgian Quad Review

Kamloops BC’s Red Collar Brewing has turned things up to 11 (point 69) with their latest brew. As an extremely limited release beer, the Black Dog Quad will not be an easy beer to find outside of the brewery itself. If you do get your hands on a bottle or two it will likely get better and better with age. Upon releasing the beer it comes in a wax-dipped bottle and pours from said bottle as a very dark, deep cherry colour with a rather thin finger’s worth of head. A rich aroma of dried fruit including raisins and cherries with a port-like sweetness to it. The strength of the dried fruit tones masks the fact that the beer is a massive 11.69% alcohol. Tasting the beer the body is light and smooth leading into a creaminess that is exemplified through the low carbonation levels. At first the flavour is relatively mild but shortly there after the big, dried fruit tones build into a piece of splendor. The cherry, prune and raisin notes work with the warming alcohol tones to give a beer that is best sipped in front of a winter’s wood stove. The booze never really takes over but your throat will be warmed with each and every sip. On the finish a lightly bitter tone comes into play balancing the deep and complex sweetness. A trifecta of fruit-sweetness, mild bitterness and a warming sensation give this beer a fantastic overall experience. Be careful though, the Black Dog will sneak up on you and bite you in the ass if you are not careful!

Alcohol – 11.69%
