Red Truck & Category 12 Brewing Collaboration – Accelerated Transmission Wet Hop Pale Ale Review
The matchmaker in this case is the BC Craft Brewers Guild who paired Vancouver’s Red Truck Brewery with Victoria’s Category 12 Brewing. Together they got their feet wet brewing the Accelerated Transmission Wet Hop Pale Ale. This beer comes from the bomber bottle pouring a golden colour and is topped with a thick finger’s worth of slow to settle, lacing head. From the Accelerated Transmission comes a piney, grassy and very “fresh hop” nose. With the hop bitterness being rather mellow and having a nice malt tone to it the fresh hop aromas are put on a pedestal in this collaboration brew. The beer has a nice body to it that is not too big, or too small. It is smooth, light and refreshing while still having some weight to throw around. The flavour is all fresh hop here. As a mid-hopped pale ale with an explosion of grassy and sap-like freshness this is one of the better examples of what fresh hop flavour really is. Beneath the wet hops is a sessionable and rather neutral Pale Ale which is the perfect launching point for a boatload of freshness.
