Moody Ales Intrepid Matcha Saison Review Moody Ales – Intrepid Matcha Saison Review

Moody Ales has released a Saison called the Intrepid Matcha from their Port Moody based brewery. As a part of the Guest Brewer Series the beer is a collaboration with local home brewer, Steve Sheldon. From the bottle this beer pours as a cloudy golden colour topped with two fingers of very lightly lacing head. As the head settles an aroma of citrus, wheat and a light earthiness (from the green tea) makes for a sessionable smelling Saison. The beer is well carbonated and features a body that is bigger than typical for the style but expected given the 6.9% alcohol content. An almost sour, citrus flavour comes out front of the tongue while the wheat and green tea notes build in the background. On the finish, a light bitterness joins the earth-tones for a relatively neutral palate. The Intrepid Matcha Saison is a bigger than typical beer but it still offers the sessionability and fresh flavour that we all love in a Saison.
