Vancouver Craft Beer Week VCBW 2015 Campfire KolschVancouver Craft Beer Week – VCBW Collaboration Campfire Kolsch Review

Red Truck, Main Street and Parallel 49 breweries teamed up this year to brew a collaboration beer called the Campfire Kolsch. $1 from every bottle is donated to the Vancouver Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society. From the plaid-labelled bottle this beer pours as a crisp and clear golden colour topped with two fingers of lightly lacing head. A malty aroma with a woodsy, lightly smoked aroma adds a subtle complexity to the beer. The smoke is light, but definitely there. The flavour is a touch smokier that the aroma. A crisp and fresh, malt forward Kolsch is paired with a light, cherry-smoked flavour that adds a layer of smoothness to the package. As the flavour subsides, a dry, slightly smokey palate is left behind. The Campfire Kolsch takes on two aspects of the name. For one it has a slight campfire taste two it, secondly when you are sitting around a campfire you want a beer that is sessionable and easy to have a few – this is that beer.

Interesting. I went to Red Truck to buy a bottle. They informed me that bottles were not available and that growler fills were not allowed because it is a “fundraiser” beer.
