Granville Island has brewed up another black note book series beer called the Brash Knuckles. This American Brown Ale features “A gang of flavours” including caramel, biscuit and bold hops. From the bomber bottle is beer pours as a chestnut brown colour (or tawny as GIB puts it) topped with two fingers of lightly lacing head. An aroma of toasted malts, light caramel, a touch of coffee and biscuits make of a fairly big aroma for a brown ale. Tasting the Brash Knuckles a relatively large body comes forth with a strong caramel, toasted and rather hoppy flavour profile. This is a big beer by brown ale standards and the biscuit notes that are mentioned on the label are also rather apparent. On the hoppy side for a brown ale this is a delicious west-coast rendition of a classic style that hop-heads will surely unite behind.
