Tod Creek Mala Hop Dry Hopped Apple Cider Review Tod Creek Craft Cider – Mala-Hop Hard Triple-Hop Apple Cider Review

Victoria BC’s Tod Creed Craft Cider is luring the craft beer drinker the way of cider with a triple hop flavour in their Mala-Hop hard apple cider. Playing on the Malahat highway this cider is produced using granny smith apples and three varieties of hops. From the 500ml bottle this cider appears as a very light golden colour with a carbonation that settles immediately without any residual head. The Mala-Hop has a champagne-like aroma with a light touch of maple sweetness to it. The hop notes do not come through with any real potency on the nose. The flavour is subtly different than your typcial cider. The champagne notes come through first while a granny smith tartness builds. As the flavour progresses the maple tones add a touch of sweetness while a subtle hop bitterness comes into play. The final note here is 100% granny smith apples though with all the other flavours clearing out to make work for a tart, apple finish. Overall I would have expected this cider to have a bit more of a hop kick to it but it is an enjoyable, tart and lightly sweet hard apple cider.
