In the extravagant witticism series of beers (okay, it’s not actually called that) from Parallel 49 Brewing Company comes the “Rye The Longface” Imperial Rye IPA.  The bottle is labelled with a young Keith Richards looking horse staring you down. Opening the bottle and giving it a pour the beer pours as an amber colour topped with three full fingers of dense and heavily lacing head. From the beer comes an aroma of orange, pine, and grapefruit in a smooth and rich aroma. On the palate the beer is big bodied with a lightly oily texture to it and an alcohol kick. Grapefruit tones make up the bulk of the flavour in a lightly sweet, piney-hop. Rye spice livens things up as well but the beer is not as intense as you may be anticipating. Grapefruit flavour cuts the bitterness and with the light caramel sweetness this big and intense beer gathers a certain sessionability to it. A delicious and big Rye IPA that may surprise you, this is the Rye The Longface from Parallel 49 Brewing.
