Deep Cove Brewers – Session Series Kentucky Common Review

Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers started their Session Series, a run of beers with low alcohol content and a high drinkability factor some time ago. They have however, more recently started bottling these beers. The Kentucky Common is their first bottled option in the line and comes from a long tradition of beers in the south. This beer pours as a brownish-copper colour with two thick fingers of loosely packed, lacing head. From the nose of this session beer comes toasted malt, light caramel and a hint of toffee. The body is relatively light but has a bit more to it than you may expect for the low alcohol level. The flavour is a touch sour with a sweetness to it. The sweetness comes partially from the corn content and a toasted malt flavour. Also there is a bit of rye in the brew giving an earthy spice to the finish. The Kentucky Common is not a common beer to see these days but its roots in Louisville roll on today and we have Deep Cove to thank for the only BC brewed option available today.
