Tree Brewing Co. – Cutthroat West Coast AleTree Brewing Co. – Cutthroat West Coast Ale Review

One of the longstanding staples of BC craft beer is the Tree Brewing cutthroat Full Flavoured West Coast Ale. This beer has been on the shelves of BC craft beer retailers for more than a decade and while the beer has evolved over time from a Pale Ale classification to a West Coast Ale, the idea behind the Cutthroat has stayed true and the recipe remains unchanged. The Cutthroat is available in 500ml single serve cans and pours a light amber colour topped with 2 fingers of thick and lightly lacing head. The smell here is malt forward with a hit of west coast hops to go with it. The aroma here forecasts a pale ale-esque beer with nice hop tones and a malted base to add a smooth and sessionable texture. The flavour starts off malt-forward in a relatively light package. This builds with a combination of English and northwest style hop bitterness into a well balanced and easy drinking ale. The beer has great flavour and balance but would not have any objections to having a few back to back. The Cutthroat is not going anywhere as it is affordable, sessionable and a great staple for the BC craft beer connoisseur.
