Tree Brewing Co. – Old School Stout Review
Kelowna BC’s Tree Breewing Company has released the Old School Stout. Not to be confused with the Oud School from Granville Island this is a totally different and unique beer. Boasting a label with a classic car and checkered flag the ‘old school’ label brings out the character of this beer. Pouring from the bottle this Tree Brewing concoction pours a pitch black colour, topped with three thick fingers of coffee coloured head. Through this thick cap comes strong tones of coffee bitterness and chocolate malts. The flavour too is strong with coffee flavours and a fairly bitter chocolate tone. The bitterness from hops is subtle and rather enjoyable and compounded with the coffee and chocolate this has a depth to the flavour. Overall the body is lighter than you may expect. Given the deep flavours and intensity the body is rather light and easy drinking. Overall the weight is on the light side but the flavour tips the scales the other way. This is a very big flavoured beer but not one that rocks the alcohol boat. At 5.5% you can easily enjoy a bottle then think onwards to what you may enjoy next.
