Phillips Ginger Beer ReviewPhillips Brewing Co. – Ginger Beer Review

Phillips has made an annual deal with releasing their spiced Ginger Beer. This herb-infused ale pours a golden amber colour with noticeable pieces of sediment in suspension. The single finger of head settles quickly into the almost chunky looking beer. The smell is 100% ginger here. Smelling of fresh ginger above a malted base this is quite intense and very unique to BC beer. The flavour is light at first with a gentle lager like body. At the back of the throat builds a Ginger spice which slowly envelops the whole mouth. The beer is rather enjoyable but let’s just hope you like ginger. Perhaps sharing the bottle is a good idea as a limited quantity of this spiced ale is quite nice, too much and you may feel like you are simply eating ginger root.

Phillips makes some decent beers, but I don’t think this is one of them. It is strongly gingered, with no discernable beer character to synergize with that. It has a harsh carbonated mouthfeel, with lacklustre head and retention. Better off squeezing fresh ginger into soda water, and adding a shot of vodka. Bwtfdik.
