Parallel 49 Brewing Co. - Sahti Claus Finnish Sahti Ale

Parallel 49 Brewing Co. – Sahti Claus Finnish Sahti Review

A Sahti is a traditional Finnish ale dating back to the days of the vikings and the Sahti Claus is a British Columbia twist on this ancient recipe. The Sahti Claus is a deep copper colour which pours slightly opaque. The head is nearly three fingers thick and leaves an absorbent amount of lacing on the glass. Through the thick head comes notes of rye, piney hop and some caramel sweetness. The taste features pleasant rye notes in the front building into a piney hop middle. From this mid section juniper berries augment the northwest hop to create a fresh, piney flavour without the intense bitterness that you may expect from hops alone. A mild sweetness flows from start to finish making for a smooth and delicious ale. The Sahti is not a typical beer in BC but right up the alley of taste preferences for BC craft beer connoisseurs.
