2013 Brewery Creek Collaboration Spruce Tip Stout Review

A total of five breweries from the Brewery Creek district have teamed up in conjunction to bring us a limited edition collaboration. Main Street, 33 acres, R&B, Red Truck and Brassneck along with BC Craft Beer Month, Hops Connect and Canada Malting have created a Spruce Tip Stout. This beer is extremely dark with nearly no light sneaking through the near black coloured stout. The beer is topped with two fingers of lightly lacing head and smells rich with notes of dark chocolate, molasses, toffee and a touch of tree sap. Compared to many lighter spruce-tip beers the sap scent is not very apparent. Tasting this collaboration beer you will be surprised with how light the body is given the aroma. The flavour is quite strong with spruce-tip sap-like flavours well in front of the chocolate and toffee tones that hide behind. The beer is filled with toasted malts and does not have much for bitterness in the finish. The Spruce Tip Stout is a relatively light tasting beer that packs a punch of BC Spruce flavour to add a unique and flavourful twist. Get this while you can as it will not be around for long

I haven’t had it in bottles yet but I was able to sample it while volunteering at the BC Beer Awards and loved it. Amazing the flavour for the alcohol content present.
