Parallel 49 Brewing Co. – Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter Review

In the mix of fall beers comes the Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter from the Parallel 49 Brewing Company. This Halloween inspired beer pours with a finger and a half of quickly settling head atop a near black coloured beer. The head is a mocha-brown colour and the beer smells of chocolate and pumpkin spice. The flavour is not way out there as some pumpkin beers are. This is a Chocolate Porter first and a Pumpkin beer second. The flavour starts off with toasted malt that builds into a chocolatey center. In the beer’s mid-section comes some notes of nutmeg and pumpkin spice but nothing here is overbearing. The Lost Souls finishes off very dry with a lingering chocolate flavour and the slightest of nutmeg. This beer is a great choice for someone who wants some fall inspiration but would rather leave the pumpkin for after thanksgiving dinner.

Alcohol – 6.5%
Size – 650ml
Price – $5.90 (Hastings St. Liquor)
This is a seasonal beer (Sept. 2013 Release)

I really enjoyed this beer last year so I will have to pick up a bottle at some point to see what it’s like this time around.
