Hell’s Gate Brewing Co. – Genuine Pale Ale Review

As Part of the Mark James Group, Hell’s Gate Brewing has started producing some canned beer for retail sale. One of the two beers currently available at select BC beer retailers is the Genuine Pale Ale. This golden-amber coloured ale has a single finger of head that vanishes almost immediately leaving no signs of lacing on the glass. The smell coming through this beer is lightly sweet, lightly toasted and a malted body is paired with a touch of hop. Overall fairly mild, the aroma coming from this Pale Ale is relatively light and fairly neutral. The flavour is fairly expected given the price tag. This Pale ale is very easy to drink starting off with a malted front. In the mid-section a touch of toasted honey sweetness makes itself known before a mid-sweet lightly hopped finish. This is an extremely easy drinking ale that any craft connoisseur may dispute as to its Pale Ale-ness but it is a cheep 6-pack for a summer day on the lake and is a cut above the mass-options resting nearby at your local retailer.

If I see Genuine in the name then I know the flavour will be genuinely bad.

Hell’s Gate Pale Ale has been my choice of beer for a while. The last 15 pack was a disaster as 13 of the 15 exploded when opened spewing out foam. What was the problem and will it continue.

Easy drinking…no problem…good for the price. Having one now, Cheers.
