Granville Island Brewing – Uncle Monty’s Best Bitter Review

From Granville island Brewing comes a mild ESB called Uncle Monty’s Best Bitter. At only 3.6% alcohol this copper coloured ale pours with one and a half fingers of lacing head. The smell is relatively bold given the low alcohol content with Cascadian hops, grapefruit, caramel and citrus. When the taste comes into play the overall feel is quite light and even a bit on the watery side of things. There are notes of Cascadian hops, a touch of grapefruit and a bit of caramel sweetness but overall this comes up short of what you expect from a west coast ESB. This is a light beer and if low alcohol was the goal then Granville Island Brewing was spot on. From the perspective of current craft beer standards and what is expected of an ESB though this beer fell a bit short. Overall the Uncle Monty’s Best Bitter has a nice taste is rather but underwhelming.
