Tree Brewing Co – Serendipity #6 Barrel Aged Ale Review

As a part of the limited Serendipity line of beers, Tree Brewing’s number 6 is something special. With three fingers of head this beer has a strong whiskey smell with an unassuming smoothness tied to it. The aroma is a little on the boozy side which is surprising given the modest 6.5% ABV rating. Tasting the beer you are in for a surprise. Of all the barrel-agers  of the past 12 months this is completely different. The flavour is quite light, mild and easy drinking. The beer has a big nose but a small body. The sharp-smelling ale has whiskey notes through the entire tasting but remains tame on the tongue. A slight smokiness comes into play with a touch of sweetness and hop. If you are looking to try something in the barrel-aged category but are on the shy side give this a try as it has the whiskey flavour but allows for the rest of the beer to shine at its side.
