Doan’s Craft Brewery – 1830 A Little R&R Rice & Rye Lager Review

Doan’s Brewery has released their House Series of beers and in it comes the 1830 A Little R&R Lager that is brewed with both Rice and Rye in the recipe. This beer pours straw coloured with a finger and a half of lightly lacing head. The aroma is light and lager-like with a mellow rye spice. The rice also adds to the aroma in a way that is similar to what you would expect from wheat. Tasting the beer the rice takes on a bigger role with a starch-like character that is matched with the rye spice. Together these take a somewhat mellow lager and kick things up a few notches. The beer is still easy drinking but has a jazzy-spice to it with a smoothness to the mouthfeel. All-in-all this is a nicely flavoured alteration of a traditional lager.

Alcohol – 47%
IBU – 31.5 (oddly exact…)
