Vancouver Island Brewing Juniper Lime Ale ReviewVancouver Island Brewing – Juniper Lime Ale Review

Vancouver Island Brewing has started a new, limited series of beers that are inspired by classic cocktails. The Juniper Lime Ales is a beer that is based on the Gimlet, a gin and lime cocktail. Pouring from the bomber bottle this beer is a light amber colour and has one finger of head which settles quickly and without a trace. The aroma has a maltiness to it that is topped by a tart lime character and mellow juniper note. The flavour is unique with a stronger malt character than expected. This malt character is made more apparent with a distinct sweetness which makes sense given that sucrose is the third ingredient. The juniper is apparent throughout but the lime builds as the flavour progresses. Coming across as more of a subtle acidity, there isn’t a ton of lime flavour but the acidity can be felt in the cheeks. This is an interesting beer and take on the classic gimlet cocktail. Perhaps a lighter base beer could have made the juniper a bit more bold and the lime flavour more apparent but at 7% this is a different beast.
