Persephone Brewing Brew The Change Coffee Rye IPA Review Persephone Brewing Co. – Brew The Change Coffee & Rye IPA Review

In their mission to change the world as a B Corp organization, Persephone Brewing has teamed up with Ethical Bean Coffee to brew a Coffee Rye IPA. This beer is a hazy amber colour and has two-plus fingers of head that settles without a trace. The aroma is thick with coffee notes which mask most other aspects on the nose. A bitterness does come through but it is difficult to decifer between rye, hops and coffee through the intensity. The flavour starts off with an initial hit of rye spice and a building coffee flavour. The Rye comes through with some clarity but the coffee still takes front stage. The IPA character is very difficult to pull from the coffee. Only a slight lingering bitterness hints at the beer’s base style. While the taste and body are quite nice the coffee does mask many of the beer’s other flavours.
