Doan's Brewing No. 82 Amaretto Altbier Review Doan’s Craft Brewing Co. – No. 82 Amaretto Altbier Review

Brewed using Sons of Vancouver No. 82 Amaretto from north Vancouver this is an Altbier that should have the amaretto flavours of apricot, vanilla and honey. From the bomber bottle this beer pours a dark amber colour with nearly three fingers of lightly lacing head. The aroma is malty with a toasted character and slight vanilla-honey character. The Amaretto doesn’t come through as you may expect on the nose but it does have a honey sweetness character to it. Tasting the beer, again honey comes through up front. The warmth of honey gives a sweetness to the beer which progressed to give a almond and vanilla-like flavour. The Amaretto comes through much more late in the flavour while the sweetness lingers on the top of the palette. Without knowing what was in the beer you may not immediately know it was amaretto but it is clear that something is going on. All-in-all this is a classic altbier with the added sweetness a flavour of a locally crafted Amaretto.
