Saltspring Island Ales – Odd Fellows IPA Review
Canned beers have made their way to Saltspring Island thanks to our friends at West Coast Canning. With no relation to Strange Fellows, the Odd Fellows is an English style IPA that was brewed with organic malt on Saltspring Island. From the 473ml can this beer pours a colour of copper with two fingers of lacing head. On the dark side of IPAs the Odd Fellows has an earthy-citrus aroma with a distinct toasted, light caramel tone to it. Tasting the beer it has a fairly big body and mouthfeel with a caramel tone up front, mild citrus pine notes and an earthy bitterness that grows with time. The Odd Fellows is not overly bitter but does tend to a dry-bitter finish that lingers for some time. The English Style IPA is not the flavour of the month in BC craft beer but remains a staple among the diverse flavours that BC has to offer and Saltspring Island has brewed a delicious and true IPA in the Odd Fellows IPA.
