A staple among the annual release of 10%+ beers is the Old Cellar Dweller. A barley wine “style” ale from Driftwood Brewery this is one for today, or to age for years to come. From the wax dipped bottle this beer is a golden colour and pours with two fingers of heavily lacing head. The colour is quite light for the style. The aroma is strong a distinct hop character. Smelling of a rich imperial-style IPA there is a citrus and pine note that comes through. If you are looking for a traditional Barley Wine this is not likely it. The flavour too is of an imperial IPA. The flavour is full of citrus notes, mild pine and a touch of tropical fruit. Once again, the 2016 Old Cellar Dweller is a great tasting beer but not really what you may expect by the label of Barley Wine. With such a strong Hop Character as well, the aging process may not improve the beer as you may expect. Regardless it is a tasty brew today!

This is still a tasty beer but if you are looking for a barleywine you will be very unhappy. This is a nice triple IPA.
