Fuggles & Warlock - Dark Side Imperial Stout Review Fuggles & Warlock – Dark Side Russian Imperial Stout Review

In usual cheeky fashion the Fuggles & Warlock team has released the Dark Side, a Russian Imperial Stout. This beer is a clear reference to a certain Pink Floyd. Regardless of name the label is sharp and pouring the beer it is deep and dark, being nearly black in colour. Three-plus fingers of dense and lacing head tops the glass and settles leaving thick lacing behind. On the nose comes rich notes of coffee and chocolate in a balanced and creamy manner. Nearly no booze character comes through in the aroma. Taking a sip of the beer, a bitter chocolate and coffee tone takes charge in a roasty and mildly creamy fashion. The coffee flavour gives a strong bitterness that bites through the other flavours and takes charge. The 40 IBU rating seems under where it should be and the 9.9% alcohol is masked by the strong flavours. This is a big and intensely flavoured beer where strong bitterness and coffee/chocolate notes take charge. The Dark Side is well crafted and offers a nice take on the Imperial Stout style.

Alcohol – 9.9%

Actually it has nothing to do with Pink Floyd. It is a play on the Dark Side of the force as far as I can tell as they took photos with a storm trooper helmet and lightsaber tap handles.

It will be an imperial Stout ina few years when the bitterness dies off. For now it’s more an imperial black Ipa.
