Vancouver Island Brewery Highway 19 IPA Review Vancouver Island Brewery – Hwy 19 IPA

Named after the Island Highway, the 19 IPA pays tribute to life on Vancouver Island from Victoria all the way up to the Northern tip. This IPA comes in a bomber bottle and is golden-amber in colour. Topped with a thick finger’s worth of head this beer smells of citrus, mango and a kick of pineapple. From the nose, Mosaic hops seem to be a significant part of the hops that went into this beer. Tasting the beer it has a relatively thin body and a big, fruity hop flavour. Somewhat sweet on the tongue, mango, pineapple and citrus notes take charge without much in the way of bitterness despite the 60 IBUs. The sweet character distracts from the bitterness and makes for a rather large flavour experience. This is not your typical IPA, though it does have the fruit-forward flavours that BC IPA drinkers are becoming accustomed too. Here sweetness overpowers bitterness giving a unique and refreshing take on the IPA style.
