Old Yale Brewing Fresh Hop Double IPA Old Yale Brewing Co. – Fresh Hop Double IPA Review

In Old Yale’s Trailblazer series of limited release beers comes their Fresh Hop Double IPA. Pouring this beer from the bomber bottle it is a clear golden colour and is topped with two full fingers of lacing head. The aroma is crassy with notes of grapefruit, lemon peel and pine. Tasting the beer it is bigger bodied than expected at 6.5% and has a unique hop flavour. The grapefruit-citrus notes join a hop bitterness that is quite intense. The grassy, fresh hop tones are mild but do somewhat lighten the intensity of the beer’s flavour. This is a big-bitterness double IPA with a ton of flavour. Being slightly lighter in alcohol than is typical for the style the flavour and bitterness come across even stronger tending towards the hop heads of BC craft beer.

Alcohol – 6.5%
Size – 650ml bottles

I enjoyed this beer as it had great flavour but it sure as heck is not a double IPA.
