In the Bucket List IPA Series from Fernie Brewing comes the Real Peel Grapefruit IPA. This grapefruit-infused IPA comes in at 6.4% alcohol and is sure to be a summer refresher. Pouring from a bomber bottle the Real Peel is a lightly cloudy golden colour with three full fingers of head which settles slowly leaving heavy lacing behind on the glass. The aroma is big with citrus notes and a distinct grapefruit peel scent. In addition to the citrus notes there is a bit of a fruity, new-world hop tone. The flavour is fairly mellow and sessionable for an IPA with a grapefruit-citrus flavour up front. A medium-light body props up the fruity notes and a hop bitterness builds very slowly behind. The bitterness is quite mellow but in the lingering moments of the flavour starts to get to a reasonable bitterness level. At this point the citrus-peel bitterness also comes into play with a slight acidity. The Real Peel is balanced and smooth while being a citrus twist on BC’s favourite beer style.
