Deep Cove Brewers Natural High Extra Pale Ale Review Deep Cove Brewers – Natural High Belgian Extra Pale Ale Review

An Extra Pale Ale is a style that is rare to come to market but marks a bigger than typical Pale ale in body, alcohol and flavour. Deep Cove has named their Belgian XPA after a classic North Shore mountain bike trail, Natural High. From the bomber bottle this beer pours a colour of slightly cloudy gold and erupts with 3+ fingers of lacing head. The aroma coming from this beer is big with pineapple, orange and lychee. A light Belgian-style yeast tone comes through but is rather subdued. Tasting the Natural High XPA it is bigger with traditional Belgian flavour than the aroma hinted at. Big fruit tones come through in spades with the Pineapple notes taking charge and letting the Lychee notes play backup. Along side the tropical flavours comes the Belgian yeast character that gives a light banana and wheat like character. The Natural High is a nice blend of new-hop flavour with the relatively unexplored XPA style.
