East Vancouver’s Off The Rail Brewing has brought some sugar and spice into their Honey Ginger Ale. This beer is 5.0% alcohol and 34 IBUs. Pouring from the bomber bottle this beer is a colour of light amber and is topped with two fingers of moderately dense head. The aroma is strong with ginger and a lightly sweet malt profile. The ginger notes take charge here but allow a small amount of the beer’s base to come through on the nose. Tasting the beer it is bubbly on the tongue and ginger comes right up front. The ginger is strong and intense and doesn’t leave room for much else early on. As the ginger slowly subsides a honey sweetness and malt character emerge from the spice. Ginger remains throughout but with dwindling intensity the other, more subtle tones make their way through the woodwork. This is a lightly sweet, ginger forward beer that is intense and quite refreshing.
