Saltspring Island Ales – Rye IPA Review
From Saltspring Island comes a Rye IPA called simply that. This beer is difficult to find outside of the Southern Vancouver Island Region but if you can find a bomber of it it will be a colour of amber-brown. A finger and a half of head tops the glass leaving thick lacing behind on the glass as it slowly settles. In the aroma a toasted, caramel tone comes out with a rye spiciness. There is a sweetness to the beer as well along side a reasonably large hop bitterness. Tasting the beer it has a big, roasted flavour with strong notes of toffee and caramel. This leads into a spicy, hop tone that is also quite intense. The toffee has a combination of sweetness and burnt bitterness that adds to the hop character. The Saltspring Rye IPA is a big, toasted, spicy and strong Rye IPA.
