The Four Mile Brewing Company has brewed up a classically styled beer. This Oatmeal Stout hits to style with a 4.5% alcohol and 40IBU set of ratings. Pouring the limited edition brew from the wax topped bottle it appears a very dark, near black colour and is topped with two fingers of very dark brown head. On the nose this beer smells stronger than the label forecasts with a deep, roasted malt tone paired with bitter chocolate. From the aroma the beer seems to be bigger than it is. Tasting the beer, the body is rather light, as the alcohol content would predict. The flavour is deep and dark with a weight to it. Big toasted malt notes give a lightly burnt flavour to the beer while cocoa bitterness comes into with a light sweetness as well. The 4 Mile Oatmeal Stout is heavier than many comparable beers and with that comes big flavour. This beer has the flavour that you may expect from a beer with a significantly higher alcohol percentage.
