Powell Street Craft Brewery Amarillo Sour Ale Powell Street Brewery – Amarillo Sour Review

Powell Street Craft brewery has released a seasonal sour named after the hops they used in the brew. This is the Amarillo Sour! From the bomber bottle the beer pours as a light golden colour topped with a finger and a half of head that settles slower than expected. From the beer comes an aroma of tartness and tropical fruit. A light sour tone is joined by aromas of apricot, peach and citrus notes that balance very well with the sour tones. The aroma of this beer really shows the power of the Amarillo hop aroma while the beer has a very low 13 IBU rating. In the flavour the sour tones are definitely there and the lactobacillus gives a defined tartness but the flavour is balanced with a light sweetness and the flavours of peach, apricot and citrus. Like a big Berliner Weisse this is a bit of a gateway sour for those new to the style while veterans will love the subtle fruit tones that come from the Amarillo Hops. This is a well crafted and very unique sour ale.
