Steel & Oak Brewing WIndrose Four Grain Porter Review Steel & Oak Brewing Co. – Windrose Four Grain Porter Review

The Steel & Oak Brewery out of New Westminster, BC has used four different grains to brew the descriptively named, Windrose Four Grain Porter. This beer comes in 650ml bottles and pours as a near black colour with two thick fingers of head that leave thick lacing behind. From the appearance of the Windrose you may guess it to be a stout rather than a porter. The aroma is light with toasted grain/malt tones along side a lightly sweet, caramel-chocolate note. The beer is light on the tongue with a smooth and milky texture. The chocolate tones come out strong with a lightly bitter and lightly sweet tone. The toasty flavours come through in a light caramel and toffee flavour that balances out the equation. The Windrose is smooth, and very tasty and is a wonderfully balanced beer. This beer is on the dark side of the style though and does more closely resemble a stout than a porter in many ways.
