Phillips Brewing Thorny Horn Raspberry Sour Brown Ale Review Phillips Brewing Co. – Thorny Horn Sour Raspberry Brown Ale Review

The Thorny Horn is a new beer to come from Victoria’s Phillips Brewing Co. As a Sour Raspberry Brown Ale that weighs in at 6.8% ABV this is a bit and strong sour beer. From the bomber bottle the Thorny Horn pours into the glass appearing as a dark reddish-brown colour with three fingers of lightly pink coloured head. A jammy raspberry tone hits the nose in a fairly sweet manner with a sharpness that also comes with sour notes. There is not much from the Brown Ale aspect that takes hold on the nose. The flavour is both sour and sweet with the raspberry tones coming from both ends of the spectrum. The beer has a strong raspberry jam like sweetness that is paired with a fairly strong sourness. The two work together to add some balance to the whole equation. The Thorny Horn is not necessarily a sour-lovers beer but rather a fruit beer fan’s friend.
