Dead Frog Brewery - Cold Brew Red Ale ReviewDead Frog Brewery – Cold Brew Tea Infused Red Ale Review

From the name “Cold Brew” you may think that the beer would be a lager but you would be wrong. The Dead Frog Cold Brew is an Ale, a Red Ale to be more precise. The name actually refers to the cold brewed vanilla bourbon tea that the beer is infused with. Sold in 6 packs of 341ml bottles the beer pours as a cloudy, brown-amber colour that is topped with a single finger of head that leaves a light film of lacing on the glass as it settles. The Cold Brew has a fairly distinct tea aroma to it. A vanilla smoothness and light bourbon-whiskey tones come with a rooibus tea like aroma. Along side the tea tones a lightly sweet, malty smell joins the mix. The flavour is unique and distinct. A smooth vanilla flavour gives an extra bit of body to the beer while the Bourbon notes are very light and unobtrusive. The beer is slightly sweet with strong malt tones that shine through the tea flavours. As the beer finishes the hops are subdued and the rooibos tea flavour gives an extra dry element to the finish. This is a nice, unique beer that has the notes of vanilla and bourbon without the kick. Using a tea infusion is a mellow and smooth way to add flavour without the typical intensity that comes with it.
