It has been a long and expensive journey but the Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers can now serve patrons more than 12oz of beer per visit. After close to a year of applications and renovations the changes have resulted in a brand new menu and selection of offerings thanks to their new lounge endorsement.
Acquiring a lounge license is no easy task for any brewery but with a distillery on site, the rigmarole was greater than average for the North Vancouver based brewery. Meeting the fire codes involved in gaining the business endorsement required major construction of a firewall between the brewery and lounge spaces. In addition to the wall an enhanced kitchen, more washrooms and renovated office space were all required to up their game in serving beer, spirits and food on site.
Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers are the first brewery to acquire a lounge endorsement within the District of North Vancouver. With this license comes the ability to serve pints (16oz) of beer as well as a number of cocktails from the spirit side of their business. For those that straddle the boundaries of craft beer and craft spirits there is even a beer cocktail that can be found on the menu.
With a lounge license also comes the requirement to sell food on site. This is not just pretzels and pepperoni sticks either. Deep Cove has adopted a model somewhere between a tasting room mentality and that of a brewpub. The dishes are simple but give a unique and delicious taste that enhance the brewery experience.
Dishes range from local chroizo sausage to home made meatballs, mac and cheese, stout stew and the snack-tacular charcuterie board. For those with a sweet tooth, do not fret as there are mini donuts in the mix as well.
If you haven’t been to the Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers there is no time like the present. While the tasting flights and growler fills have always been a draw to the brewery, now sitting down for a pint, a bite to eat and perhaps even a Deep Cove Donkey cocktail are an enticing idea. You can still fill your growler, take home bottles or taste a flight, but also take take some extra time to enjoy the full lounge experience. Even better still, outside the brewery is a new patio area where you can experience the whole ordeal. It may be a little cool through the winter but on those rare, warm days or in the many summers ahead, the Deep Cove patio will be the place to be!
