Big Rock Brewery – Cascade Wet Hop Pale Ale Review
The Big Rock Urban Brewery brewed up two fresh hop beers for 2015. The Cascade Wet Hop Pale Ale is a single hopped Pale Ale that uses the iconic Cascade hop. The two fresh hopped beers have very similar bottles but this one is appropriately labelled with the Cascade title. From the bomber bottle this beer pours as a slightly cloudy amber colour with two fingers of dense and lacing head. As the head settles it gives off an aroma of balanced, lightly sweet malt and a citrus, floral tone that is well associated with the Cascade Hop. The aroma is true to a BC-style IPA with a big citrus hop profile and a great balance of hop and malt tones. The flavour is smooth and has a delicate, citrus and floral tone to the flavour that matches the aroma spot-on. The fresh hop flavour is not over the top giving flavour but not a lot of bitterness to go with it. The brew gives just enough to accentuate the flavours and the uniqueness that a fresh Cascade Hop brings to the table. This is a great example of what can be done with fresh hops and a delicious IPA.
