Old Abbey Sour Raspberry Ale Review Old Abbey Ales – Sour Raspberry Ale Review

In the Innovation line of beers from Old Abbey Ales comes their Sour Raspberry Ale. From the bomber bottle this seasonal, fruit sour ale pours as a clear, reddish-amber colour with two fingers of head which disperses quickly and without a trace. The aroma from this beer is sweet and raspberry jam like with a sour twist. The sourness tone gives an almost lemon-rhubarb like aroma to the beer. The flavour is crisp and starts off with an unripe-raspberry like sourness. The fresh flavour’s tartness fades slightly to allow for a mid-sweet raspberry tone to come in along side. The sweet and sour tones balance off each other well and become a sum greater than their two parts. The beer is balanced and fresh while having a defined sweetness and slightly puckering sour to it.

Commercial Description:
“The perfect balance or ripe, red raspberry and sour tang. Juicy, fresh fruit and lactic sourness harmonize to create a crisp and refreshing beer.”
