The Vancouver based R&B Brewing Company was recently purchased by the Howe Sound Brewing Company out of Squamish BC. The first beer to be released from the brewery since being purchased is the Mount Pleasant Roggenbier Rye Ale. From the bomber bottle the beer pours as a copper-brown colour with a finger and a half of white head. On the nose the beer has a malty, caramel aroma with a rather distinct banana flavour from the German yeast. While not a true Oktoberfest beer, the Mount Pleasant Roggenbier Rye Ale has a very Oktoberfest-like aroma and is a perfect beer for fall. The body is smooth and light and the malty tones come through in a big way with a caramel and banana tone that comes along side. Mild rye spice comes through in the flavour while a slight bitterness builds near the finish. This is a nice, enjoyable and unique Roggenbier with a slight rye spice and banana-like flavour.
