In the search for Brett-greatness the Old Abbey Ales brewery has released another beer brewed with the ever-popular Brettanomyces yeast strain. The 100% IPA is a strong beer at 7.5% and has been one of the most anticipated beers to come from the brewery since opening. As a part of the Innovation Series of beers the 100% Brett IPA pours into the glass with three fingers of lacing head. The beer has a very lightly clouded golden colour and smells of mango, passion fruit and a kick of pineapple along side a Brett-sour aroma iconic of the yeast strain. From the aroma the beer seems to be fruit forward, well hopped and has a slightly sour, Brett funk to it (in a good way). The beer is well carbonated and has a fairly large body. As the fizz settles on the  tongue the slight sour-funk of the Brett first becomes known while a deep bitterness grows behind. As the Brett tones settle the fruit emerges in a tropical, fruit salad of flavours. The Mango and Pineapple flavours come out strongest while the pine-bitter hop tones keep strength at the back of the tongue. The 100% Brett IPA is strong and rather intense but has a delicious fruit lightness to it and the added Brett tone funk that has won the hearts of many BC craft beer fans.
