Doans Craft Brewery Kolsch Review Doan’s Craft Brewing Co. – Kolsch Review

Doan’s Craft Brewery has made quick work of entering the bottling breweries in British Columbia. One of their first releases is a traditional German Kolsch released in the late days of spring. From the bomber bottle the Doan’s Kolsch pours as a crisp and clear golden colour. Less than a finger’s worth of head appears at the top of the class and settles very quickly. From the appearance it seems slightly under-carbonated. The aroma is big with malted tones, citrus and a light sweetness. German hops add a slight aromatic nature to the smell but it is mostly malt tones. The beer has a light body and almost no carbonation. Without significant carbonation the malted sweetness comes forward and allows the hop bitterness to emerge even though it is a low 20 IBUs. The Doan’s Kolsch has nice flavours to it but with rather low carbonation the balance is not quite what you may expect. Great flavour and a nice, sessionable beer but a little light on the carbonation.
