For making such an impact on the BC craft brewing scene the Steel & Oak Brewing Company did not rush into releasing packaged product. The first beer for this New Westminster based brewery to release in bomber bottles is their award winning Smoked Hefeweizen. From the simple, yet classy labeled bottle the smoked hef pours as a opaque, golden colour with nearly three fingers of lightly lacing head. As the white crown of head slowly settles an aroma of smoke, wheat, clove spice, banana and citrus hit the nose in an intriguing fashion. The smoke aroma is relatively strong but leaves room for the other notes to shine. In the flavour the beer is light bodied with a citrus and tropical fruit front. As the sessionable start fades the smoke, banana and clove tones build making for a more robust flavoured beer. The Steel & Oak Smoked Hefeweizen is both sessionable and light while remaining complex and delicious. There is a reason that this beer was so popular when launched at the 2014 Vancouver Craft Beer Week and in year 2 if anything, it is even better!
