Moody Ales – Lusty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout Review
Port Moody BC’s Moody Ales released released the Lusty, a Chocolate Oatmeal Stout back in 2015 and updated the recipe again in 2017. This beer is a chocolate infused Oatmeal Stout pours a very dark, deep brown colour with a finger’s worth of head that leaves light lacing on the glass’s sides. From the Lusty comes a creamy chocolate aroma that is almost reminiscent of a milk stout with strong cocoa nib tones on the nose. The soft and smooth chocolate tones leave room for a light cocoa bitterness, slight toasted aroma and a fairly well defined maltiness to the body. On the flavour the beer is lighter bodied than the nose forecast but has a milky creaminess to it at the same time. As the flavour progresses the cocoa bitterness and creamy chocolate notes emerge along side a mellow toasted malt characer giving a smooth chocolate overall flavour. Mild sweetness is compensated for with the a slight bitterness making for an enjoyable, chocolate forward oatmeal stout.
