The Critical Point is a Pale Ale brewed just outside of Victoria BC in Saanich by the Category 12 Brewing Company. At 5.6% and 49 IBUs this west coast Pale Ale pours from the bottle as a crisp, amber colour topped with two fingers of thick and lacing head. From the Critical Point Pale Ale comes an aroma of citrus, tropical fruit, malt and a touch of brassy-metal. The flavour is a nice balance of hop and malt characteristics making for a beer that is rather sessionable but still has a kick of northwest flavour. Citrus notes make up a big part of the initial flavour before tropical fruit and light caramel build in the mid-section. In the finish a piney-hop bitterness takes hold giving a truly west-coast finish to this BC brewed Pale Ale. The Critical Point is a great example of what a BC Pale Ale should be.
