Phillips Brewery named DRINKS Business Green Company of the Year

Drinks Business Green Company of the Year Phillips BreweryApril 22, 2015 – Christmas came on Earth Day for the team at Phillips Brewing Company, as they were named the 2015 DRINKS Business Green Company of the Year. The annual award is given to the company that best demonstrates its commitment to the environment, by changing and improving its business practices to better its carbon footprint. Nominations are open to any beer, wine, cider or spirits manufacturer in the world and this is the first time it has ever been given to a brewery.

“We’re honoured to be recognized with this award,” said Phillips owner Matt Phillips. “Attention to detail, innovation, creativity, local ingredients, and commitment to quality are all parallels between how we approach our beer and how we approach the environment. One really informs the other and that’s a perspective shared by many of our craft brewing brethren.”

Phillips was chosen for the honour over massive, internationally renowned brands, proving that it’s not the size of the company but the commitment of the team involved that can make a real difference. After Concha y Toro, a global wine leader and largest wine manufacturer in Latin America was declared the runner up, the judges announced that, “[The winner] goes to a brewery tucked away at the southern end of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, which conveyed a deep-rooted environmentally friendly approach with infectious – but far from sanctimonious – enthusiasm. It’s innovative too, and has taken the step of designing its own CO₂ reclamation system, a pioneering example for smaller breweries.”

So this Earth Day do something nice for the earth. Volunteer, install solar panels on your roof, change a habit for the better…and then celebrate with a beer.
