Four Winds Brewing Vexillum Imperial IPA Review Four Winds Brewing Co. – Vexillum Imperial IPA Review

In the line of Zephyrus IPAs from Four Winds Brewing comes the Vexillum. As an Imperial IPA this is the biggest beer to come in the series to date. Weighing in at 9% alcohol and 100 IBUs this will surely be a beer with a stiffness to it. From the typical Four Winds labeled bottle this Imperial IPA pours as a lightly opaque golden colour topped with two fingers of dense and heavily lacing head. From the Vexillum comes a big and tropical aroma. Big mango, melon and citrus hop tones come through is a delicious, and not all that boozy smelling beer. The body is big but not as intense as you may expect. A balanced flavour of mango, melon and grapefruit makes for a smooth and fruity flavour profile. Rather light and sessionable given the intensity of this beer the Vexillum is un-categorically smooth and extremely delicious. While big, Imperial IPAs tend to get a little intense on the alcohol end of the spectrum Four Winds has made a unique and very enjoyable Imperial IPA. Even at 100 IBUs the bitterness is not over the top and leaves room for the flavour to shine! It is not like Four Winds to disappoint and the Vexillum is by no means an exception.

[…] Four Winds Brewing Company has really made a splash since opening in 2013. Not only did they take top spot with the Phaedra, but the Vexillum came in just behind in 2nd spot with a score of 4.73. This is a big and bitter, 100 IBU Imperial IPA that takes the fresher, fruitier approach to hop flavour. Mango, melon and grapefruit tones dance on the tongue while high alcohol content warms the throat back to front. The Vexillum is balanced while being big, intense and a massive sensory experience.
